Description

This article describes how to update the firmware of a TalkSwitch TS-850i or TS-860i IP phone to version 1.44. This update is recommended if the phone randomly displays Ethernet Disconnected.

Scope

TalkSwitch TS-850i and TS-860i

Solution

1. Download the firmware file from http://autoupdate.fortivoice.com/support/IPPhones/01.44.zi

2. Save the firmware file (01.44.zip) to your desktop and extract the contents.

3. Download and install TFTPD32 or TFTPD64 using the default settings (Windows XP & Vista are typically 32bit & Windows 7, 64bit):

• Windows 32 bit: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/download/Tftpd32-4.00-setup.exe
• Windows 64 bit: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/download/Tftpd64-4.00-setup.exe

4. Open the TFTPD program using the Desktop shortcut.

5. Note the Server Interface IP address in the TFTPD program as you will need this later.

6. Click the Browse button, and browse to the 01.44 folder and select the firmware folder therein. Click OK.

7. Get the IP address of the Base from one of the handsets by pressing the Volume Up key on the left of the phone.

8. Open a web browser and type the IP address of the IP Phone in the address bar.

9. When prompted enter the Username and Password. (User: admin - Pwd: 23646)

10. Once you are logged in, select Management Settings on the left.

11. In the "Firmware Update Server Address" field enter the Server Interface IP from step 5.

12. Erase what is in the "Firmware Path" field.

13. Click on "Save Changes". DO NOT REBOOT THE BASE.

14. On the 850i/860i handset, navigate to Firmware Update menu:

• Press the middle button to access the menu
• Select the wrench for "Settings"
• Go to "System Settings" and select Firmware Update.
• Follow the prompts to start the update.
