Description

This article describes how to simulate users performing file downloads using FortiTester with random file types. This is a good practice case for testing the AV profile on scanning files.

Scope FortiTester.
Solution

Create a file object, go to Performance Testing -> Objects -> Files and Create New. Specify name, example below Random-files

  1. Add files that need to be simulated, it can be any files but a maximum of 10Mb per file.

  1. Go to HTTP > CPS and create a new test, configure network policy and under Action, select Custom, User uploading pages under Request Page. Then choose the Random-files object created in step 2 for the Request Page Option in order FortiTester to know which file object to use to simulate a file download.

Make sure Method is set to GET.

There is an option to randomize the file name in which adds a random alphabet at the end of the file name, as per the screenshot below.
