Description This article outlines steps to diagnose an issue where the Ubiquiti AP AC Lite fails to power up when connected to a FortiSwitch 648F. The PoE port displays a "Power Fault: Error Type 9 (Start Fault Condition)" error.
Scope FortiSwitch
Solution

In the output below, an Ubiquiti Access Point is connected to port1, and the following error message is observed:

Cause:
The Ubiquiti AP AC Lite is not a standard IEEE-compliant PoE-powered device (PD). It relies on non-standard PoE behavior, which is not supported by the FortiSwitch 648F-FPOE. As a result, compatibility issues may occur when attempting to power the device through this switch.

Solution:
To ensure proper functionality and avoid compatibility issues, it is recommended not to connect the Ubiquiti AP AC Lite to the FortiSwitch 648F-FPOE.
Instead, use a FortiSwitch model that supports 2-pair PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment), which is more compatible with the Ubiquiti AP’s power requirements.
