Description

This article describes the reasons why FortiSwitch 108F and 1xxE models run at high memory on firmware version 7.6.

Scope

FortiSwitch models 108F and 1xxE.

Solution

After upgrading FortiSwitch 108F and 1xxE models to v7.6 firmware, the FortiSwitch runs at high memory even immediately after boot up and when no traffic is passing through the switch.

Top-5 memory used: 42590kB

FortiSwitch 108F and 1xxE models running at high memory after an upgrade to firmware version 7.6 is expected behavior. These models are built with hardware that is limited to 256MB RAM. FortiSwitch OS 7.6's minimum requirement is 512MB RAM. These models will always boot up with high memory usage. The memory usage difference between firmware 7.6 and firmware 7.2 or 7.4 is because more features are supported in 7.6, meaning more daemons are running and consume more memory.
