Technical Tip: Understanding FortiSwitchNMS Options

Solution

FortiSwitchNMS is an on-premises centralized management solution for standalone FortiSwitch and FortiSwitch-AX deployments.
It can also monitor and manage third-party devices, such as Cisco devices.
All managed devices are visible in the Node List.

Even though the Node List displays all managed devices, some options are available only for specific device types.

As shown in the screenshot above, the following Node List options apply only to FortiSwitch-AX devices:

• Node Backup.

• Node Filter.

• Node QoS.

• Node Port Mirroring.

• Node.
  
  

These options are not supported for standard FortiSwitch devices or third-party devices.

Similarly, under Task Scheduler, the Upgrade Node Software (Stage Update) task is supported only for FortiSwitch devices.

For devices other than FortiSwitch-AX devices, the Save Configuration task under Task Scheduler should be used to create configuration backups.
These backups are stored under the Revisions section rather than under Node Backup.
