Technical tip: FortiSwitch topology view incomplete after FortiOS upgrade to v7.6.5

FortiOS v7.6.5 and 7.6.6 GA are showing an incomplete topology view under Managed FortiSwitches -> Topology section.

FortiLink connection between the FortiGate and the FortiSwitch units shows a dotted line, and FortiSwitches show no connected ports information.

Execute switch-controller get-physical-conn standard shows blank output.

This will display connectivity graph information for FortiLink from FortiGate's perspective
NOTE : If FortiSwitch is not authorized, no connectivity information will be shown
NOTE : If FortiSwitch is in idle state, no connectivity information will be shown
NOTE : If FortiSwitch ISL peer has inconsistent info, no connectivity information will be shown

FortiGate is not displaying the FortiSwitch topology correctly after the upgrade to v7.6.5 or v7.6.6 when the FortiSwitch name is more than 16 characters

This is a known bug reported in FortiOS versions. It will be fixed in the upcoming FortiOS version 7.6.7.

Workaround:

1. Change the FortiSwitch name to less than 16 characters.
2. Reboot the FortiGate.
