Description This article describes how to resolve the Invalid API Key error when adding the ChatGPT API key in FortiSIEM.
Scope FortiSIEM.
Solution

FortiAI returns 'Invalid API key' when adding an OpenAI (ChatGPT) API key, even though the key was generated successfully.

FortiAI currently supports only legacy OpenAI Secret Keys in the format:

sk-xxxxxxxx

It does not support newer project-based keys:

sk-proj-xxxxxxxx

Even if the key starts with sk-, sk-proj- keys are not recognized due to a current compatibility limitation.

Resolution/workaround:

Generate a Legacy Secret Key from OpenAI:

  1. Log in to OpenAI Platform.

  2. Create a new Secret Key (not a project-based key).

  3. Ensure the key format is sk-xxxxxxxx.

  4. Configure the key in FortiAI again.
