Technical Tip: Windows Agent uninstall correct procedures

Description

This article describes the correct steps to take to uninstall the Windows Agent from a Windows host.

Scope

 Window agent 4.4.x -7.4.x.

Solution

Do not uninstall the Windows Agent from the Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs -> Uninstall. This is not the correct way.

  1. If the agent was installed using the FSMLogAgent.exe: to uninstall it correctly, run the same .exe version bundle that is currently installed on the Windows host. This will open the Uninstall Wizard; select Uninstall as indicated in Uninstalling Windows Agent via GUI.


  1. If the agent was installed using the FSMLogAgent_xXX.msi, right-click on the same .msi version bundle that is currently running in the Windows host and click Uninstall.

  1. After the uninstall is completed, verify the Agent service has been removed correctly from Services -> FSMLogAgent.


Additionally, it is recommended to remove the Windows host from the FortiSIEM GUI -> CMDB, which should show the device status as Decommissioned.
