This article will explain how a hostname for a device is determined through AO

 

Additional Information

  1. Device IP address resolution occurs when the device is discovered.
  2. A standard DNS lookup on the IP address is tried first. 
  3. If DNS resolves the IP address then the returned hostname is stored in the CMDB.
  4. If DNS does not return a hostname then hostname is taken from SNMP results and stored in the CMDB.
