Description This article describes how to transfer a Windows or Office license inside FortiSandbox to a new Windows VM.
Scope FortiSandbox (VM and Hardware) 3.0.x onward.

Solution

The screenshot below shows that WIN10O16V4 is activated with office 2016.

Here only one license of office2016 is present which is already activated with WIN10O16V4, and more license key are not available for office or windows 10 to be activate on WIN10X64VMO16.

Now if user wants to use WIN10X64VMO16 instead of WIN10O16V4.

Step 1:

Decrease the clone number of active Windows VM image to 0.

Step 2:

Now reset WIN10O16V4 to release the license of windows 10 and office 2016 to be activated WIN10X64VMO16.

Run the following command:

vm-reset -n <The name of windows image that needs to be reset>

This command will reset and release the Office 2016 and Windows license.

After running the command, the image will be seen being re-installed on FortiSandbox, as shown in the screenshot below.

This process will only be seen for the image that was reset.

Step 3: Increase the clone number of WIN10X64VMO16 to initialize and activate the image.

Note: License transfer or activation will only work with the same type of Windows VM. Cross-Windows VM licenses will not work.

For example:

  • A WIN10X64VM Windows license will only work with WIN10X64VMO16 or WIN10O16V4.
  • A WIN10LTSCO19V Windows license key will only work with WIN10LTSC or WIN10LTSCO21V as LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel) is a new Windows license type which only works with version WIN10LTSC.
