Description This article describes an issue in FortiRecorder where the message 'Unable to resolve the NVR public address.' is shown when adding cameras.
Scope FortiRecorder VM.
Solution

When deploying a new FortiRecorder instance on a public cloud platform, such as Microsoft Azure, such an error may be encountered when attempting to add new FortiCameras to the FortiRecorder.

The error occurs because the FortiRecorder does not have a direct public IP on its network for communication with remote cameras. In Azure and similar public cloud environments, private and public IP mapping is handled by the cloud infrastructure.

To resolve this issue, configure the Public Access: Host Name setting on the FortiRecorder. This ensures that the remote cameras can recognize the appropriate public endpoint to establish communication with the FortiRecorder.

  1. Log in to the FortiRecorder Web GUI.
  2. Navigate to System -> Configuration -> Options.
  3. Set the Public Access: Host Name to the public hostname FQDN or public IP associated with the FortiRecorder instance.
  4. Apply the configuration and ensure the cameras are pointed to the same hostname or public IP.

By setting the public IP to the Hostname, the FortiRecorder can effectively notify the remote FortiCameras to communicate through the correct public endpoint.

After completing the above setup, the FortiCameras can be added successfully to the FortiRecorder.
