Description This article describes the issue where a customized profile in FortiPortal is lost and reset to the default after an upgrade. The article provides a solution to this problem, which is caused by a bug that resets predefined user profiles to their default settings after any upgrade.
Scope FortiPortal.
Solution

On FortiPortal (as per version 7.4.8), the following profiles (and their profile type) are predefined on the system:

  • Admin ('Service Provider' profile type).
  • Customer Admin ('Customer' profile type).
  • Customer Monitor ('Customer' profile type).
  • Default OAuth Customer ('Customer' profile type).
  • Web&Video Filters Admin ('Customer' profile type).

Predefined system profilesPredefined system profiles

These profiles can be tied to particular users, and FortiPortal also allows reconfiguring the settings on them. However, the settings of the predefined profiles will always be reset to their default settings after an upgrade. This means that all of the previously defined settings are lost.

To resolve the issue of a customized profile being lost and reset to default after an upgrade of FortiPortal, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure to create a custom profile instead of using the predefined user profiles.
  2. Go to System -> Profiles and create a new profile.
  3. Configure the new profile with the desired settings and assign it to relevant users.
  4. After the upgrade, the custom profile will retain its settings, while the predefined user profiles will reset to their default settings.

When the upgrade is done to version 7.4.9 or higher, the settings as configured on the default profiles do not reset to the original values, so they can be kept.
