Technical Tip: FortiPAM password changer for FortiOS v7.6.3 and above

This article describes the new password changer needed to work with FortiOS v7.6.3 and above.

Solution

In FortiOS v7.6.3 and above, there is a change in the CLI syntax when changing the password.
Hence, the FortiPAM default password changer for FortiOS will not work.

Change password in v7.6.2 and below:

FGT-Lab1 # config system admin
FGT-Lab1 (admin) # edit admin_user
FGT-Lab1 (admin_user) # set password 123123
FGT-Lab1 (admin_user) # end
FGT-Lab1 #

Change password in v7.6.3 and above:

FGT-Lab1 # config system admin
FGT-Lab1 (admin) # edit admin_user
FGT-Lab1 (admin_user) # set password 123123
Please enter current administrator password: ***
FGT-Lab1 (admin_user) # end
FGT-Lab1 #

To support the new behaviour of password changing in FortiOS v7.6.3 and above, a new password changer has been introduced in FortiPAM v1.8.0 and above.
Upgrade to FortiPAM v1.8.0 and above to support the password changer for FortiOS v7.6.4 and above.
