Technical Tip: Active Session Video Monitoring Not Showing in Real Time
Description
This article describes the expected delay behavior of the Active Session Video Monitoring feature in FortiPAM.
Scope
FortiPAM v1.9 and above.
Solution
When using the Monitor Active Session feature, users may observe a delay between the actual session activity and the video displayed in the monitoring window.
This delay is expected due to the processing, recording, and streaming mechanisms used by the session monitoring service.
Expected delay ranges:
• FortiClient mode: approximately 8–13 seconds
• Agentless mode: approximately 6–10 seconds
Although recent improvements have reduced the delay, real-time monitoring is not instantaneous by design and a certain amount of latency is expected.
If the delay consistently exceeds 30 seconds, collect debug logs for further analysis.
Run the following commands from the FortiPAM CLI:
diagnose debug enable
diagnose debug console timestamp enable
diagnose wad debug enable category http
After enabling debugging:
1. Launch a secret.
2. Start an active session.
3. Open Monitor Active Session.
4. Reproduce the delay issue.
5. Collect the generated debug logs.
6. Provide the logs to Fortinet Technical Support for investigation.
Note:
The development team is actively working on enhancements to further reduce monitoring latency. However, due to technical limitations, the delay cannot be completely eliminated.
