Troubleshooting Tip: Logged-in user information does not populate for hosts with Persistent Agent

Description

This article describes common configuration mistakes that cause missing logged-in user information in the host view.

Scope

FortiNAC-F, FortiNAC.

Solution

If the RADIUS Authentication (802.1x) is not used, the Persistent Agent is the only way to automatically learn the logged-in user information.

The Persistent Agent can actively track the logged-in user in real time on a registered host as explained in Technical Tip: User tracking through Persistent Agent and how to upgrade agents from the FortiNAC host view. However, the settings below are often misconfigured, resulting in missing logged-in user information in the Host View.

  1. Go to System -> Settings -> Persistent Agent -> Credential Configuration and ensure 'Enable Registration' is checked and 'Register As Device' is unchecked.

  1. Go to Policy & Objects -> Passive Agent and add a rule like the one below.
Select 'User' in the dropdown menu.
