Technical Tip: How FortiNAC can automatically create and send an SSH Remote Backup to an external SSH server

Configure the external SSH remote backup server (Bitvise SSH Server is used as the external SSH server in this example).

1. Open the Bitvise SSH server console and select the Server tab, then open Easy Settings.

2. Go back to FortiNAC:

1. Navigate to System -> Settings -> System Management -> Remote Backup Configuration.
2. Enable 'Enable SSH Remote Backup' and click 'Display Public SSH Keys'.
3. Copy the key to a notepad.
   
   

3. Select 'Next' and select the Windows account type from the drop-down list. In this example, the 'Local account' has been selected.

1. Enter the Windows Account name.
2. Select Public Keys to import the FortiNAC SSH Public key -> select Import 'From Clipboard'.
3. Paste the key.
   
   

4. Select 'Next' to 'Virtual accounts' and select 'Add'.

1. Enter the virtual Account name and password.
2. Re-import the same FortiNAC SSH Public key.
3. In the 'Root directory', browse and select the remote backup folder that FortiNAC will access to import the backup.
4. Afterwards, select 'OK'.
   
   

5. Go back to FortiNAC and configure the SSH settings:

6. Select 'Test SSH Connection'. This will create a test file 'scptest.txt' in the backup folder.

Note: If Bitvise is installed on the Windows Domain controller, editing the Bitvise advanced settings of virtual groups and virtual accounts is required.
