Description

This article describes how to configure and manage FortiNAC Manager in Cluster mode.

Scope

FortiNAC Manager.

Solution

This article assumes that initial configuration is completed for the devices that will join the cluster as mentioned in the FortiNAC Manager Configuration.

The first step is to identify which manager will act as a leader. The leader node then builds the cluster.

  • Leader configuration.

  1. Go to System -> Config Wizard.

  2. Enable Cluster Mode -> FortiNAC-M Basics -> enable 'Deploy in Cluster'.

  3. Set the node type to leader.

  4. Set Name.

  5. Apply config and reboot.

  • Worker configuration.

  1. Enable 'Deploy in Cluster'.

  2. Assign the node type 'Worker'.

  3. Apply.

Apply the configurations and wait for the confirmation. If all is fine, a 'Success' message will appear and the node will reboot.

  • Add a worker node in Cluster Management.

  1. Go to System -> Cluster Management -> Add New.

Set the Name, IP Address and Serial Number of the Worker node and apply the settings.

  1. If all goes well, the Worker will appear in the Cluster Management.

  • Verification.

A healthy cluster should show:

  • One Leader node.

  • One or more Worker nodes.

  • All nodes in the Running state.

Validate database replication:

Cluster Management may show status Running and all looks fine but the replication underground might fail.

  • Login to the leader node and create a test object (for example a 'Logical Network').

  • Verify if this Object is automatically replicated to all worker nodes.

  • Confirm changes done to the Leader are visible across the Cluster. Login to the worker node and verify the changes.

Command from the CLI:

diagnose tail -f output.datasyncer
