Solution

Version: FortiNAC 8.x & 9.x

There are four types of port uplinks defined in Network Sentry:

Learned:  Created when the MAC address of a device modeled in Topology is learned off that port.

Threshold: Created when the number of MAC addresses learned off the port exceeds the System Defined Uplink Port value in System - > Settings - > Network Device.  It is best practice after initial discovery of switching infrastructure to set the System Defined Uplink Count from 20 (default) to 2000.

User Defined: Manually set through port properties.

WAP: When the MAC address of a wireless controller or Access Point already discovered in Topology is learned off that port.

WAP uplinks will reset automatically to an access port if the AP is disconnected (mac no longer seen off the port). However, all other uplinks can only be reset manually via port properties.
