Technical Tip: macOS Big Sur 11.0 not being detected

Description

 

This article describes an issue with macOS Big Sur 11.0 devices which were not detected. At some time during development macOS Big Sur changed versions from 10.16 to 11.0. Auto-Definitions has already been updated to detect 10.6. However, machines running Big Sur 11.0 were not.

Scope

 

FortiNAC Version: 8.x.

Solution

 
Auto-Definitions were updated Friday, November 13, 2020, to include 11.0 Big Sur. 
 
Support will be added based on the Auto-Definition Directory value under System -> Settings -> Updates -> System.

. (week0) - will receive an update as of Friday, November 13, 2020.
./week1 - will receive an update as of Monday, November 16, 2020.
./week2 - will receive an update as of Monday, November 23, 2020.
./week3 - will receive an update as of Monday, November 30, 2020.

 
Weeks 0 and 1:
  1. Run Synchronizer under System -> Scheduler.
  2. Once updated, select 11.0 (Big Sur) in the appropriate scan under Policy -> Policy Configuration.
 
For weeks 2 and 3:
To retrieve the update sooner than the scheduled time, do the following:
  1. Change the week to either week0 or week1 (note: this will pull down all definitions for that week). 
  2. Select Save Settings.
  3. Run Auto-Definition Synchronizer under System -> Scheduler.
  4. Once the update is complete, the schedule can be changed back under System -> Settings -> Updates -> System.
  5. Select 11.0 (Big Sur) in the appropriate scan under Policy -> Policy Configuration.
