Technical Tip: High Hard Drive Utilization Due to Too Many Backup Files

This article describes an issue when there is High hard drive utilization on either the Control Server or the Application Server.

Solution
One cause for high drive utilization is too many backup or log files being archived. This can include any of the following:
- Database Backups.
- Connections logs.
- Event logs.
- Alarm logs.
- Scan results logs.
- System Backups (Backup of all system files that are used to configure the appliance, such as license key and web server configurations).
To view the number of days the files are being kept before deletion, navigate to:
System -> Settings -> System Management -> Database Archive (for database backups and logs).
System -> Settings -> System Management -> System Backups.
- One of the appliances has been configured as the remote backup server (such as the Application Server). There is no mechanism for the appliance to manage backup files copied from another appliance. Therefore, backup files are never removed and can fill the drive.
System -> Settings -> System Management -> Remote Backup Configuration.
To resolve this: It is recommended that a 3rd party server (not one of the appliances) be used when configuring remote backups.
