Technical Tip: Conditions that clear an Uplink port status

Description

This article describes the conditions that will clear a port that has been declared an uplink in FortiNAC.  For more information on uplink types, see Port Uplink Types in the Admin Guide.

Uplinks disable management of the port, meaning all hosts read on this port are ignored.  Any host connected to an Uplink port will not change VLANs.

Conditions where FortiNAC will clear an uplink state on a port
Learned, Threshold and WAP Uplinks Only: State clears if FortiNAC receives a SNMP link-down trap for that port.
WAP Uplinks only:  State clears after L2 poll is performed and FortiNAC no longer detects the Access Point's MAC address on the port.

Otherwise, the Uplink Mode will not change unless cleared manually.

Scope

FortiNAC 8.x, 9.x, F7.x

Solution

To clear current Uplink Mode:

  1. Navigate to Network -> Inventory.
  2. Select the switch.
  3. Under the Ports tab, highlight the port.
  4. 'Right-click' and select Port Properties.
  5. Check the Clear box next to Uplink Mode.
  6. Select OK.
