Description
CLI connection to Avaya switch fails.  Unable to switch VLANs.  However, able to successfully SSH to the switch using the same credentials from within the Control Server CLI.

By default, the login sequence used assumes the login banner is enabled.  If there are switches that have the banner disabled, CLI connection with not complete.

Scope
Version: 8.x

Solution
Important:  For consistent CLI access, the banner setting must be the same on all managed Avaya switches.

Option 1: Enable the banner from the switch CLI.  Refer to the following link or appropriate Avaya documentation:
https://downloads.avaya.com/Libraries/stack/vsp7000/rel_10_3_x/NN47202-600_commands_reference/commands/banner.html

Option 2:  If the banner is disabled on all Avaya switches, modifications are required in the Control Server to accommodate the new login sequence.  Contact Support for assistance.

Note the following regarding option 2:
  • Changes must be made after each appliance upgrade
  • Changes must be performed in both primary and secondary Control Servers in High Availability configurations
  • Changes must be performed on all pods managing Avaya switches
