Troubleshooting Tip: Failed to import policy package due to 'Failed to update interface mapping on vpnmgr_xxxxx' error

Description

This article describes how to resolve an issue when failing to import a policy package due to the 'Failed to update interface mapping on vpnmgr_xxxxx' error.

Scope

FortiManager, FortiGate.

Solution

Initially, the 'vpnmgr' interface or zone is auto-created when an installation from FortiManager using VPN Manager is performed. In FortiManager itself, the normalized interface cannot be edited if it is auto-created and consists of 'vpnmgr'.

The FortiGate's configuration is probably copied from a previous configuration that used the proper VPN Manager configuration. Proceed to remove the 'vpnmgr' words in the FortiGate.

Proceed to import the policy package again and it will remove the error.
