Description This article describes how to use metadata variables into FortiManager SD-WAN templates.
Scope FortiManager v7.2.
Solution

If an SD-WAN template is used and it is applied to many FortiGates, metadata variables can be configured to set a gateway IP address (Interface Member, Cost and Priority as well).

After creating metadata variables, add FortiGate gateway IP address information for multiple IPs into Per-Device Mapping.

  1. Create Metadata Variables: After selecting an ADOM, go to Policy & Objects -> Advanced -> Metadata Variables -> Create New.

1. Create Metadata Variables.png

1. Create Metadata Variables_2.png

1. Create Metadata Variables_3.png

Note:

A Metadata variable's default value must either be a valid IP address or left blank. If any non-IP text or invalid value is entered in this field, an error will occur when saving the SD-WAN template.

  1. Add these Metadata Variables to the SD-WAN template. After selecting the ADOM, go to Device Manager -> Provisioning Templates -> SD WAN Templates -> Create New.

2. Create SDWAN Templates.png

2. Create SDWAN Templates_2.png

2. Create SDWAN Templates_3.png

  1. Assign SD-WAN templates to FortiGate. After selecting the ADOM, go to Device Manager -> Select FortiGate device -> edit Provisioning Templates -> add SD WAN Templates.

3. Assign SDWAN Templates.png

3. Assign SDWAN Templates_2.png

  1. Install the SD-WAN templates into FortiGate. After selecting the ADOM, go to Device Manager -> Select FortiGate device -> Install Wizard. During the Installation, select Install Preview to check the changes.

4. Install.png

  1. Verify the FortiGate configuration. Go to FortiGate -> Network -> SD-WAN to verify the new configuration.
