Technical Tip: How to remove a license infromation from the FortiManager for devices that are no longer registered

Description This article describes how to manually remove license information from FortiManager for devices that are no longer registered in FortiManager and might already be de-registered from the Fortinet Support Portal.
Scope FortiManager v7.4.6 and before, v7.6.3 and before.
Solution

There may be a situation when the existing FortiGate HA cluster needs to be de-registered from the FortiManager, after a de-registration, the FortiGate HA cluster is removed from the Device Manager - Device & Group list, but the serial number of the secondary FortiGate cluster member may still appear in the database contract list.

To verify a registered device with a serial number in the FortiManager Device Manager list:

diagnose dvm device list

diagnose dvm device list <device name>

To verify the serial number in the FortiManager database Contract list:

diagnose fmupdate dbcontract

diagnose fmupdate dbcontract <serial number>

To verify the serial number in the FortiManager Upgrade Manager list:

diagnose fmupdate dump-um-db um2.db device_object

To remove license information for already de-registered serial numbers that are still listed in the database Contract list or in the Upgrade Manager list:

diagnose fmupdate del-device <serial number>

This issue has been resolved in FortiManager v7.4.7 GA and v7.6.4 GA release (bug ID 1126774).
