Technical Tip: How to Assign an Object to Other ADOM(s) Even When the Object Is Not Referenced in Any Policy

Description

This article describes how to assign an object to other ADOM(s) even when the object is not referenced in any policy.

Scope

FortiManager.

Solution

  1. Log in to FortiManager and switch to Global Database.

  1. Refer to the steps in Creating object configurations to create an object.

  1. Select Policy & Packages -> Assignment.

  2. Select the target ADOM(s) to push the object to.

  1. Select the ADOM(s) and assign.

  1. Select 'Assign All Objects' as the object is not referenced in any policies.

  1. The assignment status will show as 'Up to date' once the object has been successfully pushed to the ADOM(s).

  1. Verify in the local ADOM - switch to the target ADOM and check Policy & Objects to confirm the new object now appears there.

  2. The object now exists in the ADOM database but is not yet in the live FortiGate configuration. To push it to a device, reference it in a policy and use Install -> Install Wizard.
