Description This article describes how to fix 'Error: 554 5.7.1 Access denied Message rejected by FortiMail' when trying to send outbound email from Microsoft.
Scope FortiMail and FortiMail Cloud.
Solution

'554 5.7.1 Access denied' means there is no Access control policy configured to relay the email through FortiMail.

 

To fix the issue, configure the following access control policy in FortiMail under Policy -> Access Control -> Receiving:

  • Sender: Internal
  • Recipient: * (any)
  • As a Source, select 'ISDB' and search for 'Microsoft'.
  • Reverse DNS pattern: *.outbound.protection.outlook.com
  • Authentication: Any
  • Action: Relay
