Description This article describes how to resolve when Gmail is responding 'The IP address sending this message does not have a 550-5.7.25 PTR record'.
Scope

FortiMail

Solution

From the FortiMail cross-search log there is an error as below when sending the email to Gmail :

dsn=5.7.25, reply=550-5.7.25 [y.y.y.y] The IP address sending this message does not have a 550-5.7.25 PTR record ... https://support.google.com/a?p=sender-guidelines. 41be03b00d2f7-8c17940799dsi3720350a12.488 - gsmtp, stat=Service unavailable(Reason from remote:550-5.7.25 [y.y.y.y] The IP address sending this message does not have a 550-5.7.25 PTR record setup, or the corresponding forward DNS entry does not 550-5.7.25 match the sending IP. As a policy, Gmail does not accept messages 550-5.7.25 from IPs with missing PTR records.

The above error means that Gmail is rejecting the email when the PTR record configured in DNS does not align with the sending IP address of the client

Solution:

Update the sending IP [y.y.y.y] of the client in the PTR record.
