Description

This article describes the issue of FortiMail memory gradually increasing due to the expiremail daemon not exiting properly. This can lead to high memory usage, which can cause performance issues.

Scope

FortiMail.

Solution

To resolve the issue of FortiMail memory gradually increasing due to the expiremail daemon, follow these steps:

  1. If the FortiMail memory usage has been continuously increasing after upgrading to version 7.6.4, with no specific daemon using the most memory usage in the output of CLI 'diagnose system top', but a notable number of expiremail daemons are running.

  1. A lot of leftover 'expiremail' daemons will be observed if the CLI command 'diagnose debug tools process list' is executed in FortiMail.

  1. The workaround is to reboot the FortiMail, which can temporarily bring down the memory usage, but eventually, the FortiMail memory usage will still gradually increase.

  1. Upgrade to FortiMail v7.6.5 GA, which includes a fix for the expiremail memory enhancement issue.

Note: Before upgrading, back up the configuration and other important data to prevent loss in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.
