Description This article describes the behaviour of the CLI command 'set queue-max-delivery-attempt' in FortiMail.
Scope FortiMail.
Solution
  1. With the CLI command 'set queue-max-delivery-attempt <value >', enter the maximum number of tries to send an email in the default, incoming, or outgoing mail queues. Valid range is 0 to 144. Entering 0 means no limit.

config system mailserver
    config mail-queue
        edit outgoing
            set queue-max-delivery-attempt <value >
        next
end

  1. If the value of the CLI command 'set queue-max-delivery-attempt <value >' is configured as 2, then FortiMail will try to send an email in the default, incoming, or outgoing mail queues 2 times, and if the delivery is still failed, FortiMail will directly discard it.
  2. The default value is '0'.
  3. FortiMail enforces the setting whichever occurs first between queue-max-delivery-attempt <tries_int> and queue-timeout <hours_int>.
