Technical Tip: Re-allocating FortiMail disk space

Description


This article describes how to change log disk and mail disk partition size in FortiMail.

 

Scope

 

FortiMail v6.0,v6.2,v7.0, v7.2, v7.4 and v7.6.


Solution

 

The total disk space of FortiMail is 249 GB, and by default, 20% disk space (49 GB) is allocated to the log disk, and 80% disk space is allocated to the mail disk (198 GB) as follows:

The following is the configuration to re-allocate 50% of disk space to the log disk and 50% of disk space to the mail disk:
 
Run the following command in FortiMail CLI:
 
execute partitionlogdisk 50
This operation will erase all data on the mail and log disk!

After executing execute partitionlogdisk 50, FortiMail has now allocated 50% disk space to the log disk and 50% disk space to the mail disk as follows:

Important:

If the intention is to resize the log disk, it is necessary to backup all logs in an external syslog server. These logs cannot be restored after the procedure so the logs could be lost.
