Technical Tip: Message ID to find specific email process log record
| Description | This article describes how the Message ID can be used in order to find out how a specific email is processed by FortiMail. |
| Scope | FortiMail 7.6 versions. |
| Solution | In order to find how a specific email is being processed by FortiMail, the Cross-search log can be used. Usually, more than one email can be found in the same SMTP session, as the image below shows.
The previous picture shows three different emails (three different email subjects) in one SMTP Session, which makes it difficult to see each email handling process.
It is recommended to search for the Message ID option field inside the cross-search log, which will show a unique email log record and offer a better view of each email processed by FortiMail.
Message ID can also be accessed by 'right-clicking' on the History Log field.
The message ID can also be traced in the email header. Verify that the message IDs in the logs and the email header match to confirm that the correct email has been traced. Example:
