Technical Tip: How to verify if FortiMail successfully relay the email from the log
| Description | This article describes how to verify if FortiMail successfully relay the email. |
| Scope | FortiMail. |
| Solution | In FortiMail, every inbound and outbound email is recorded in the History Log. Starting from FortiMail v7.6 and above, there is a feature to check the Delivery Status of emails. This feature can be enabled under SMTP Service settings. For more details, see Technical Tip: Delivery status of Mail in History log.
Before v7.6, to verify the delivery status for the inbound or outbound email from FortiMail, this could be checked from the cross-search log. Find the message as per below in the cross-search log. As per example, it shows that the email status is sent means the email is successfully relayed to the next hop MTA 'mserver.shol.lab'.
If the recipients did not receive the email, check on the next hop MTA, which is 'mserver.shol.lab' as per the above log example, to see if there is any issue since FortiMail has successfully relayed the email.
Note: In firmware version 8, the same activation process can be followed for the delivery tracking feature. |
