Technical Tip: How to reject an email and send a copy to BCC recipient

This article describes how to configure FortiMail to reject an email while simultaneously sending a copy of the message to a BCC recipient for monitoring or auditing purposes.

Solution

In some environments, administrators may require emails matching specific conditions to be rejected while still retaining a copy of the original email for review or compliance purposes.

In this example, emails contains the banned word:

i will kill you

It will be:

• Rejected by FortiMail.

• Sent to a BCC recipient for audit and review.

Step 1: Configure banned words.

1. Go to: Profile -> Antispam -> Select existing profile or create new.

2. Configure as below:

Step 2: Configure Action for final action reject and send BCC.

Go to: AntiSpam -> Action -> Create new > Enable BCC, add recipient email address, and enable the final action with reject.

Step 3: Apply to the existing recipient policy.

Policy -> Recipient policy.
