Description

This article describes how to configure the total number of errors the FortiMail unit accepts before dropping the connection.

Scope

FortiMail Cloud, FortiMail v6.4.x, v7.2.x, v7.4.x and v7.6.x.

Solution
  1. By default, five errors are permitted before the FortiMail unit drops the connection.
  2. For example, a test email to 7 invalid recipients, and only 5 errors are accepted by FortiMail and eventually, FortiMail closed the connection due to too many errors.

  1. Here is the FortiMail log.

  1. It is possible to go to the session profile:  Error Handling -> Change 'Maximum number of errors allowed for each connection' to 10.

  1. Now, test email has been sent to 7 invalid recipients again and it is possible to see all 7 errors are accepted without the error '421 4.7.0 Too many errors'.
