Description
This article explains the delay and xdelay in FortiMail log field.

Below are the sample of FortiMail log:
to=<test@test.local>, delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=esmtp, pri=46238, relay=[10.1.1.1] [10.1.1.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (16R8XK9W019216-16R8XK9Y019216 Message accepted for delivery).

Solution
'delay': how much time it tooks to FortiMail to process and deliver the email (including xdelay).
'xdelay': the xdelay attribute is computed when FortiMail starts trying to connect to the remote host and ends when the 'dot' is accepted at the closure of the DATA SMTP phase.
