Technical Tip: Append subject with specific keyword if the sender is external

Description
This article describes how to tag all incoming email messages from external domain.

Solution
In order to segregate email messages which are coming from external domain to internal protected domain, all the inbound email messages can be tagged with specific keyword.

1) Go to Data Loss Prevention -> Rule & Profile -> Rule.
2) Create a new message scan rule.
3) Create a new condition as below.



 
 

 
 
4) Go to Data Loss Prevention -> Rule & Profile -> Profile.
5) Create a new DLP profile.
6) Create a new DLP content scan settings as below and select the scan rule created.
 
 
 
 
7) Select 'New' to create a new action profile.
 
 

 
 
8) Configure the specific word to add to email subject. For the example below, FortiMail will tag the external email subject with [External].
 
 
 
 
9) Make sure to select the new action profile for the scan rule.
 
 

 
 
10) Apply the new DLP profile to the policy accordingly.

Result.
The email subject is tagged with '[External]'.
