Description This article describes accessing FortiCloud logs when device-to-device log migration is unsupported.
Scope FortiGate Cloud.
Solution

When using FortiGate Cloud as log storage, it's important to note that log migration between devices is not supported according to FortiGate Cloud, regardless of whether a free or FortiCloud Premium license is used.

Scenario example.

When a FortiGate 120G is deployed to replace an existing FortiGate 200E, and FortiGate Cloud is used for log storage.

The following consideration is critical:

If a 1-Year Log Retention subscription is currently active on the FortiGate 200E and must be transferred to the new FortiGate 120G, the FortiGate 200E must be de-provisioned from FortiCloud with the 'Keep Data' option selected, as log migration facilities between the devices are still not supported by FortiCloud.

This will ensure that the log data stored under the active subscription remains accessible for the remainder of the subscription period, even after the original device is removed from service.

Important notes on Data Retention.

  • After de-provisioning, there is a grace period during which the logs are retained.
  • If no action is taken, any logs older than 7 days will be automatically deleted and cannot be recovered.
