Troubleshooting Tip: Resolving 'Cannot Configure Local IPv6 Address as Peer' Error in BGP Peering
Description
This article describes the cause and resolution of the 'Cannot Configure Local IPv6 Address as Peer' error encountered when setting up IPv6 BGP peering
Scope
FortiGate.
Solution
The following error may appear when configuring BGP peering for an IPv6 network: 'Cannot Configure Local IPv6 Address as Peer'.

Check the interface IP address setup for conflicts, as the same peer IP cannot be selected if it is already defined locally on the FortiGate.

The IPv6 address fd00:e:7::1 is already configured on FortiGate port 3, requiring a change in the BGP neighbor IP to the correct peer. Once updated, the BGP configuration can be saved successfully.
