Troubleshooting Tip: OSPF neighbor stuck in the 'loading' state

Description

This article describes how to troubleshoot an issue where the OSPF neighbor is stuck in a loading state.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

See one of the following articles if the network is stuck in one of the other states:

 

Always note the size of the OSPF packets during cases where the neighbor state gets stuck at 'loading'. For example: note large LSU packets containing large router LSA.

 

In these cases, take simultaneous packet captures on both OSPF neighbors to find any missing packets.

 

FortiGate may generate a large Type-1 LSA (total packet length) that may have difficulty reaching the destination.

 

Refer to the screenshot below for an example OSPF capture:

Run the following commands and check the status:

 

get router info OSPF interface

get router info OSPF neighbor

get router info ospf database brief
