Description

This article describes the actions that should be taken when the message 'Reset button has been disabled, please press the button during the first 60 seconds after a power-cycle' is printed multiple times.

Scope

FortiGate, FortiOS.

Solution

This message should only appear after the reset button is pressed. Pressing a button within 60 seconds of powering on will restore the FortiGate to its initial settings, and then the configuration will be cleared.

After 60 seconds, pressing the left mouse button once will bring up this message. If this message keeps popping up in the console, it indicates that this button has a hardware issue.

The console output will look like the following:

Reset button has been disabled, please press the button during the first 60 seconds after a power-cycle.

Reset button has been disabled, please press the button during the first 60 seconds after a power-cycle.

Reset button has been disabled, please press the button during the first 60 seconds after a power-cycle.

Disable the reset button as a workaround:

config system global
    set admin-reset-button disable
end

To verify the hardware, the relevant Hardware Quick Inspection Package test should be performed:

diagnose hardware test button reset

If the Hardware Quick Inspection Package test has the status '[[ X FAIL X ]]', the device should be replaced by following the RMA process.

Details about the RMA process can be found in Technical Guide: How to perform an RMA replacement of a FortiGate.
