Troubleshooting Tip: IP address of the user is showing different than the assigned in FortiGate WiFi client-monitor dashboard

This article describes the issue of user identification on the FortiGate WiFi client-monitor dashboard, where a specific user is frequently being assigned a different IP address, and when the detail view is checked, it shows a different IP address than the currently assigned. The article provides a step-by-step guide to resolving this issue.

Solution

 

In the attached image, it can be seen highlighted IP shown in the IP column of the dashboard shows the IP address 192.168.169.4, but in the detailed view, it shows 192.168.169.8.

To resolve the user identification issue on the FortiGate WiFi client-monitor dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Dashboard -> Assets & Identities to view the assets monitor.
  2. Check and validate if the results are showing the same or are correct.
  3. If the issue persists, clear the device detection database using the command:

diagnose user device clear

 

  1. After clearing the device detection database, check if the IP information is now matching correctly.
