Troubleshooting Tip: IoT detect definitions not updating

Description

 

This article describes how to trigger an IoT database update when the automatic update is not working as expected.

 

Scope

 

FortiGate.

 

Solution

 

In some cases, after purchasing an IoT Detect Definitions license or after an upgrade, the IoT database shows as not updated:

 

diagnose autoupdate versions

The FortiGate must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered with FortiCare.

  • Be connected to an anycast FortiGuard server.

  • Have device detection enabled in at least one interface.

 

If the IoT database is still not updated, enable application control in one of the existing policies or create a new dummy policy with application control enabled. Afterwards, trigger the update attempt again and check again after using the following commands:

 

diagnose debug application update -1
diagnose debug enable
execute update-now
diagnose debug disable
diagnose debug reset

 

After that, the status of the definitions should show as follows:

 

diagnose autoupdate versions
