This article describes an issue where the FortiGate GUI becomes unresponsive when navigating to Log & Report -> Forward Traffic. The issue may be observed after upgrading the device to FortiOS v7.6.6.

Users may notice that the GUI freezes or stops responding while attempting to display Forward Traffic logs.

Scope

FortiOS v7.6.6

Solution

Verify the Issue:

The following symptoms may be observed:

  • The FortiGate GUI becomes unresponsive when opening Log & Report -> Forward Traffic.

  • Other GUI pages may continue to function normally.

  • The issue occurs consistently when loading Forward Traffic logs.

  • The behavior is observed after upgrading to FortiOS v7.6.6.

Workaround:

Disable the Resolve Unknown Applications feature under the GUI log display settings.

Using the GUI:

  • Navigate to Log & Report -> Log Settings.

  • Under Global Settings, locate Resolve Unknown Applications.

  • Set the option to Disable.

  • Select Apply to save the changes.

  • Reopen Log & Report -> Forward Traffic and verify whether the issue is resolved.

Using the CLI:

config log gui-display
    set resolve-apps disable
end

The issue is related to a known issue in FortiOS v7.6.6, where the GUI may become unresponsive while attempting to resolve unknown applications during log display operations, which is currently under investigation by Fortinet Engineering.
Further updates and a permanent resolution will be provided in a future software release once the investigation has been completed.

Expected Result:

After disabling the Resolve Unknown Applications feature, the Forward Traffic log view should load normally without causing the GUI to freeze.
