Troubleshooting Tip: GUI Freeze When Viewing Forward Traffic Log from Memory after upgrading firmware to v7.6.6

Description

This article describes a known issue where the FortiGate GUI may become unresponsive or experience timeout symptoms when viewing Forward Traffic logs stored in memory.
Affected devices may exhibit increased CPU utilization and GUI freezing while attempting to display traffic logs.

Scope

 FortiOS v7.6.

Solution

To resolve the issue of the GUI freezing when viewing the Forward Traffic log from memory, follow these steps:

 

GUI configuration:

  1. Access the FortiGate GUI.

  2. Navigate to Log & Report -> Log Settings.

  3. Under the Global Settings tab, locate the Resolve Unknown Applications option.

  4. Set it to 'Disable' and save.

CLI configuration:

config log gui-display 
set resolve-apps disable 
end


Expected Result:

If the GUI no longer freezes and the Forward Traffic logs can be viewed successfully after disabling 'Resolve Unknown Applications', the issue is related to the issue below:


Known Issue Information:

ID: 1205102.

Symptoms:

  • Unable to view traffic logs stored in the FortiGate memory.

  • GUI may become unresponsive or timeout while loading Forward Traffic logs.

  • Increased CPU utilization may be observed during log retrieval.

Status:

This issue is currently under investigation by Fortinet Engineering. A permanent fix is planned for a future FortiOS release in the v7.6.x and v8.0.x branches.

Workaround:

Disable the 'Resolve Unknown Applications' feature using the GUI or CLI configuration shown above.
This workaround can be used until a software fix becomes available.
