Description This article describes the error 'Partition Image EXT4-fs (sdaX): couldn't mount as ext3 due to feature incompatibilities' during reboot which can appear in the console or with the CLI command 'diagnose sys flash list'
Scope FortiOS 7.4.8+.
Solution

The console output of the error appears as follows:

The error 'Partition Image EXT4-fs (sdaX): couldn't mount as ext3 due to feature incompatibilities' not only appears in the console logs, but also shows in a CLI session:

The fix for the issue is expected in FortiOS versions 7.4.9:2826, 7.6.4:3576, and 8.0.0:0045. If the error still persists even after upgrading to these versions, contact Fortinet via the Fortinet support portal.
