Description

This article describes double reboot behavior on NP7 devices after an upgrade to version 7.6.5 or above, triggered by the default_qos_type config and/or vlan-lookup-cache config.

Scope

NP7 FortiGate devices upon upgrading to 7.6.5 or higher.

Solution

On an upgrade of NP7 FortiGate device to version 7.6.5 or higher, the device could go through a double reboot. This is triggered by either a reconfiguration of the default_qos_type or an invalid vlan-lookup-cache. Those settings changed default values, as indicated in the changes in default behavior (FortiOS 7.6.5 release notes). It is also mentioned in the special notices.

The list of all NP7 devices can be found on the NP7 architectures page. Note however that not every device will encounter the same issue.

On the console connection on the upgrade from 7.4 to 7.6.5 or higher, the following logs may appear (or a variation that only shows default_qos_type or vlan-lookup-cache):
