Description

This article explains the BGP SNMP trap state that would trigger a trap to be sent from FortiGate to the SNMP server.

Scope FortiGate.
Solution

Based on the documentation, BGP generates an SNMP trap when the Finite State Machine (FSM) transitions from a higher-numbered state to a lower-numbered state, provided that the bgp-backward-transition option is enabled. The SNMP trap is triggered according to the following state changes:

 

High number state

Lower number state

ESTABLISHED

IDLE

OPEN SENT

IDLE

OPEN CONFIRM

IDLE
