Description

This article provides a first troubleshooting step that should be followed when WhatsApp voice calls are not working.

Scope

FortiGate.

Solution

WhatsApp voice calls use a custom port for voice communication. The following ports will need to be allowed for WhatsApp voice calls to work:

TCP: 4244, 5222, 5223, 5228, 5242
UDP: 3478, 45395

In order to open these ports on the FortiGate, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Policy & Objects.
  2. Select Services.
  3. Create New.
  4. Name the port, such as 'Port ####'.
  5. In the destination port field, select TCP, UDP, or SCTP depending on the kind of port needed.
  6. Write the port number, for example, 4244.
  7. Hit OK to create it.
