Description This article describes the steps to troubleshoot and resolve UTM license issues on FortiGate Azure VM with PAYG license. Issues with UTM licensing may occur despite having a PAYG license.
Scope FortiGate.
Solution

To troubleshoot UTM license issues on FortiGate Azure VM, follow these steps:

  • Check the Device's Entitlement Tab in the Fortinet Support Portal to confirm the license's activation date.
  • First, log in to the Fortinet Support Portal.
  • Navigate to Products -> Product List. Enter the FortiGate/FortiWifi product's serial or model number.
  • Select the serial number to access the Product Information page, and review the entitlement information.

  • Typically, PAYG (Pay-As-You-Go) licenses include UTM services. However, ensure that the specific PAYG plan being used includes the UTM services expected.
  • Run the following FortiGuard debug commands to collect logs and update FortiGuard Servers: Troubleshooting Tip: Unable to connect to FortiGuard servers.

Note: In an air-gap environment where the FortiGate device is not connected to the internet, will need to manually update the license file by first downloading it from FortiCloud on an internet-enabled device and then uploading it to the FortiGate device. This process ensures that the device remains properly licensed without requiring direct internet access.
